When it comes to lifestyle and affordability it doesn’t get any better than Medican’s latest condominium project – Canvas at Millrise. The project’s tag line – The Art of Living Well – sums up what Canvas is all about – convenient location, affordable price and great amenities.

Located just off of Macleod Trail in the established community of Millrise, Canvas will be comprised of two four- storey buildings separated by beautifully landscaped courtyards and an amenity centre that will offer a sauna, steam room and a large fitness room.  Project sales manager, David Frid, adds that an owners’ lounge for entertaining, as well as a library and flex room will round out the amenities.

Architecture will consist of clean lines and low-pitched roofs highlighted by cultured slate and two-tone wood siding. “We are calling it Frank Lloyd Wright inspired,” says Frid.

Each building will consist of 159 homes and floor plans, all named after artists, will range from 517 square feet to 930 square feet.  A variety of one- bedroom and two-bedroom designs are available and for those able to make it to the front of the wait list, six coveted one bedroom plus den homes are also for sale.

The show suite located at  23 Millrise Drive, SW, details the two-bedroom Botticelli floor plan. “We’ve put in about eight to ten thousand dollars worth of upgrades,” says Frid. This 929 square foot home features a well designed floor plan with the master bedroom on one side and the second bedroom on the other. In the middle, an open central area contains the kitchen, dining room and main living space. From the living room a French door opens onto a large terrace.  “Medican has incorporated the large terrace design from their other projects,” says Frid.  In fact, all plans have terraces that range from 70 square feet to 124 square feet.  Interior suites will overlook the landscaped courtyard, he explains.

Dressed by Julie Okamura of Pop Interior Design Group, the show suite features the Expressionist colour scheme. Coffee stained cork flooring in the entranceway dining area and kitchen matches the kitchen’s dark urban style flat panel cabinetry.  Counters are upgraded to a sleek dark granite. A double undermount stainless steel sink and stainless appliances complete the look.  The backsplash features full height two-foot by one-foot tiles with a multicoloured striated pattern that lightens the dark wood and granite. An extended eating bar offers extra space for guests to sit and chat while you are preparing dinner and the kitchen extends into a large walk in pantry, perfect for storing just about everything.

Standard short shag light grey carpeting extends throughout the rest of the suite mirroring the grey tone in the wall colour. Adding splotches of colour, expressionist-style art clothes various feature walls.
The master bedroom is a good size and flows into a walk-in closet which extends through to the ensuite where ceramic floor tile, dark cabinets, dark granite countertops and white subway tile create an inviting feel.
Buyers have a choice of three colour schemes- Expressionist, Impressionist and Romanticist.  Stainless steel appliances, stackable washer and dryer, storage locker and heated underground parking are all included in the price.

Canvas is situated five minutes from two LRT stations and is close to shopping, movie theatres and a host of other amenities.

The first building launched on July 21 and according to Frid sales were rapid. “We sold 80 per cent in the first day. We are hoping to break ground on the first building in the new year with occupancies starting in the winter of 2007,” says Frid. One-bedroom suites in the second building will start under $175,000 and two-bedrooms will start under $275,000.
For those with their heart set on this property, no worries, building two is expected to launch early in the new year.
