Homes by Avi is a well-known name in Calgary—one that is synonymous with beauty, style and outstanding customer service. Many know this homebuilder for the beautiful single-family homes it builds, but few know that in 2002, Homes by Avi

ALICE MATEYKO, Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Homes by Avi says the design influence of Avi Urban projects comes directly from the urban environment evident in older, more established inner-core communities. She is confident StoneWater will include the same attention to design and detail as it predecessors. “StoneWater is comprised of 142 contemporary and stylish town homes with a West Coast elevation style, reinterpreted and redefined for the urban dweller. It is located in the final phase of Lake Chaparral, one of south Calgary’s foremost lake communities,” she says.

Vice-President of Product Development for Homes by aAvi, Charron Ungar, says StoneWater is shaping up to be a truly incredible project. “We wanted something new and so we created what is essentially the most forward—and what we feel to be one of the best designed projects that Avi Urban’s ever put together,” says Ungar. “We are very excited about this release.” As mentioned, StoneWater will reside in the Genstar community of Lake Chaparral and will offer full community privileges including lake access. This means that residents can enjoy lakeside living and an abundance of year-round outdoor activities. In addition, Lake Chaparral is within walking distance to Fish Creek Park and the Bow River pathways, and is only a short drive away from the Rocky Mountains. Of course this great community has a lot of other fantastic amenities to offer, and is only minutes from the downtown core.

Ungar says that in keeping with its proximity to the Lake at Chaparral, StoneWater will incorporate exterior finishing details that will emulate a craftsman mountain esthetic with a contemporary twist, complementing the atmosphere of the lake community. He says that the interiors also have been given a great deal of consideration, which is apparent in the finishing. “We went with high-end interiors as we wanted to put our best foot forward in this project and our research has shown that our customers wanted to have the best possible specs up front,” says Ungar. “With StoneWater we have been able to give that to them—hard surface countertops are standard, hardwood floors and tile are standard—and there are design details on the interior which are pretty much unmatched. I believe that our team of designers has been very successful in putting together one of Calgary’s premier townhome communities; it’s going to be great.” StoneWater units range in square footage from 1,264- to 1,460-square-feet and offer six different floor plans to choose from. These plans include both three-bedroom and double-master designs; some with private backyards and some fronting onto interior park space, offering a product-line that is quite varied.

However, the design details aren’t the only incredible features of StoneWater, as there is a definite green aspect to the project. Ungar says that Homes by Avi has one of the strongest green eco-friendly specifications in the marketplace. All the units come standard with low-E windows, a high-efficiency furnace and a high-output high-efficiency hot-water tank and R-40 insulation. The company utilizes eco-friendly building materials and practices to ensure that each home is as healthy on the inside as it is for the environment. “There’s a lot that we’ve put forward in making sure that the project is up to grade when it comes to recognition of eco-responsibility,” says Ungar. “Not only are our building practices friendly to the environment, but we consider the environment to be external and internal so we use things like low-VOC paints and formaldehyde-free wall insulation because it’s what you breathe on the inside of the house that’s also important.”

Ungar says that this is something that sets the company apart, although they haven’t strongly marketed the fact previously. “One of the things we’re working on this year is to ensure that people know that we are an eco-friendly company,” he says.

StoneWater is already under construction, and with prices starting in the $300,000s the townhomes are bound to sell out quickly. CL
