Living in the new old West
The Rancheros in Cochrane captures the western spirit with a decidedly modern twist
The name itself rings with the rugged authenticity of the Old West—the Rancheros. And these bungalow-style multi-family homes in Cochrane’s new subdivision of Sunset Ridge are as romantic as they sound, with the awe-inspiring vistas of the Rockies at every doorstep.
Located in the prestigious new community of Sunset Ridge, CalBridge’s latest multi-family project is a testament to the openness and hospitality (not to mention growing popularity) of the small town just west of Calgary and embodies graceful living under the big prairie sky.
“The Rancheros is unique enclave within The Homesteads of Sunset Ridge, and includes 56 bungalow-style homes designed with owners’ lifestyles in mind,” says area sales manager Allistair Elliott.
The Rancheros are designed to fulfill the needs of today’s retirees and empty nesters who still want to enjoy active lifestyles without having to worry about the day-to-day upkeep of a big home. The Rancheros successfully marries the feeling of an estate home with the functionality of a condominium unit and all this with the added punch of Cochrane’s scenic surroundings.
“We’ve been able to combine the flexibility and ease of maintenance-free living with all the benefits of a single-family home. The Rancheros truly offer homeowners the best of both worlds,” Elliott tells Condo Living.
The Rancheros is available in two models: The Apache and The Navajo. The Apache has a main floor measuring 1,368 square-feet, while The Navajo is slightly larger at 1,403 square-feet. Both are available with walkout basement options. A Navajo show home with a 646-square-foot loft option is scheduled to open in the fall.
The open design and the big windows enhance the feeling of stylish spaciousness, which somehow brings the beauty of the outdoors inside. Elegant finishing and design in the show homes elicit plenty of positive reviews from visitors, Elliott says.
The versatility of both models is on full display at the show homes. The Navajo is decked out in a western-style package with wide plank hardwood floors, antique white cupboards and granite tops, while the Apache has a very urban flavour. Elliott points out that there are 36 interior design choices available that can fit almost any taste.
He says the beauty of the Rancheros is its affordability. “There’s nothing else in the market quite like it, something similar in a community like Glen Eagles will cost upwards of $600,000; while the Rancheros start at $388,000 and you still have the same views, the same luxurious lifestyle, the same kind of living at a fraction of the price.”
The turn-key lifestyle at the Rancheros, he says, is very appealing to snowbirds, empty nesters and others looking to downsize. “You don’t have to give up anything when you downsize and the Rancheros makes sure you still get all the comforts of home with the advantage of just leaving and locking the property for months at a time and still having the peace of mind that everything is taken care of.”
It also provides an environment for people of similar lifestyles and interests to congregate and form their own tight-knit community within a community. “It’s a great neighbourhood where residents feel at ease with everyone around them, with a spirit of good old western hospitality,” Elliott says.
To visit their show home: head west on Highway 1A from Calgary, turn north on Highway 22 and right on Sunset Boulevard and follow the signs. CL
