A bridge to sustainability
The Infinity at Bridgeland wears its “green” heart on its sleeve
Sophisticated, sexy and sustainable, the Infinity at Bridgeland is at the forefront of Calgary’s movement towards a more environmentally responsible multi-family building, but what sets it even more apart is that it not only promotes a more eco-friendly existence but a more community-focused one as well.
The four-storey concrete and steel building by Infinity Developments has received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification and is a model of how forward and innovative design can result in a multi-family masterpiece.
It features an economical two-boiler water recycling system that heats the 15-unit building, argon-filled windows and higher-than-standard insulation in the walls and ceilings to better maintain room temperatures, and a revolutionary whisper-generator micro turbine array that actually generates electricity sold back to the city.
“We are the only commercial building that has this in Calgary and we’re doing this in partnership with Enmax,” Infinity Development President Don McCafferty proudly tells Condo Living.
With this Enmax-endorsed “whisper-gen” micro-turbine, owners will have an opportunity to use state-of-the-art high efficiency heating systems (that generates electricity from the heat production process) to save on energy rates and sell power electricity back to the grid—a long-term sustainable feature with immediate and lasting value for owners.
“This is one of the reasons why our project was voted in the Top 10 most interesting projects by the City’s planning department from over 2,400 other projects,” he adds.
Located in the vibrant community of Bridgeland, just across from Calgary’s downtown, the Infinity has a very modern and distinctive exterior design with brick and cedar accents. It has 15 very spacious units, including four townhome models on the ground floor, 11 apartment-style units and a penthouse.
“Infinity is on the leading edge of everything—structure, design, green initiatives, closeness, and the trend of returning to an intimate, neighbourly setting,” McCafferty says.
“So its character is suitably trendy: young and healthy, professional, always pushing the limits. Infinity is also smart, knowing Bridgeland is an up and coming area that will grow in popularity as The Bridges develops more phases and the Bridgeland and Riverside communities are rejuvenated.”
In addition to being on the cutting edge in terms of design, Infinity is also at the forefront in terms of marketing strategies with their unique lease-to-own program. It’s the perfect option for people tired of throwing their money away on rent.
Outside, Infinity boasts a huge courtyard with a fishpond and filled with flowering trees and plants to attract birds and butterflies. It also has a green roof, literally, with a garden where residents can hold barbecue parties and plots of land where they can plant vegetables.
“That courtyard space, we could have built three more units instead, but our company doesn’t think that way, we wanted something that will benefit residents. The roof garden is another innovative touch where residents can hold safe, secure barbecue parties,” McCafferty says.
Each unit has a seven-appliance package (including energy-efficient washer, dryer, refrigerator, microwave, hood fan, dishwasher, and garburator), dual flush toilets, six-foot soaker tubs, granite countertops and a generous use of tile throughout. Each unit also comes with a titled parking slot and storage unit. The building also has its own underground car wash and bicycle storage. CL
