Moving West
Homesteaders feel the lure of contemporary condos by Stonecroft
Condo shoppers looking for modern digs with fabulous views blended with a lake community address will soon be able to heed the age-old adage and “go West.”
The B.C.-based developer's latest offering on the condominium landscape, West by Stonecroft is slated to hit the coveted neigh-bourhood of Arbour Lake, just west of the Crowfoot shopping and services area, later this year.
Stonecroft has already been flooded with inquiries about the 92-unit luxury apartment-style addresses, and is putting together a waiting list.
“We've never had this kind of response to a project before,” says Guia Hiebert, who heads up sales in Calgary for Stonecroft, known on the Calgary housing front for a previous high-end Arbour Lake complex, and other successful developments including Richmond Road, Cedarbrae, Citadel, Harvest Hills and Evergreen projects.
Marketing will officially begin next month, with those on the extensive waiting list getting first dibs at the 92 available apartment condos.
Suites, all two-bedroom and two-bath designs, some with dens, will range from 925 to 1150 square feet, with four floorplans in total. One lucky buyer will net a massive 1,500-square-foot unit better resembling a luxury hotel suite, perched above two floors of amenity rooms of the same size and flanked by a round wall of glass.
“It will have windows all around, a roof-top patio, and the best thing is you have no one living above you and no one below,” says Hiebert.
Standard floor plans will be far from average, with all West residents reaping a long list of upscale appointments from open floor-plans, granite countertops and seven stainless steel appliances to in-suite laundry rooms, fireplaces, nine-foot ceiling heights and a mix of Berber or 40 ounce cut-pile carpet, and tile underfoot with in-floor heat.
“The main difference from our former Stonecroft developments is it's going to be more contemporary - we've chosen the specifications, including cabinets, hardware and lighting fixtures to be very modern in feel,” says Hiebert.
Meanwhile, would-be buyers won't have to fumble with tape measures and curtain rods, as a blind package is also covered by their purchase price.
Kitchens will serve up stylish cabinetry in rich maple, with two choices of wood stain to help match furniture and flooring and allow owners to personalize their suites.
A blend of stucco, brick, sleek steel and windows aplenty will adorn the exterior of the project, designed to appeal to young professionals looking for a place of their own to suit contemporary tastes. Meanwhile, empty nesters have also shown an interest in the westerly address, likely for its low-maintenance appeal.“I love the condo lifestyle, not worrying about yard work and just being able to enjoy your free time, as well as the security and flexibility a condominium offers,” says Hiebert, who has personally lived in three of Stonecroft's projects.
While details on which amenities are to be sported for resident use are still being fine-tuned, Hiebert says the pair of common-area spaces may boast a fitness area. Meanwhile, the Arbour Lake location nets West buyers lake privileges with a small membership fee, and proximity to shopping, restaurants, movie theatres and a host of services is second-to-none.
Light-rail transit is also on track, with a C-Train station slated to zoom into the Crowfoot area by 2008.
“You'll also have panoramic views of the mountains, and COP, and downtown,” says Hiebert, adding quick access to Stoney Tr., Hwy. 1, and Crowchild Tr. puts residents virtually anywhere they want to be within minutes.
Heated, underground parking keeps cars safe and warm, with one or two assigned spots included with ownership, as well as storage lockers in the heated underground space. Two elevators and an elegant, hotel-worthy lobby are also planned to greet residents and visitors and transport them comfortably to upper floors of the five-storey digs.
Construction is slated for spring, while residents are expected to first cross thresholds to their stylish Stonecroft homes by the fall of 2007. CL
