Smoke Detectors Save Lives
Working smoke detectors save lives. This is the message that The Smoke Detector Program has been sending for the past ten years. Clearly it has been heard. How do we know this?
Because of the outstanding number of quality entries submitted for the first annual Smoke Detector Poster Contest launched to celebrate the 10th birthday of the Smoke Detector Program. Students from Calgary public elementary schools were invited to submit posters showing the value of having a working smoke detector in their home Entries were judged in two categories – kindergarten to grade three and grades four to six. The winning artists won money for both themselves and the schools they attend. The elementary schools were chosen to participate because we believe safety education needs to start very early age.
The Smoke Detector Program is a partnership between the Calgary Fire Department and The Calgary Region Homebuilders Association and is made possible through sponsorships. Source Media Group and New Home Living Magazine proudly sponsored this contest.
You cannot put a value on this program because this would be trying to put a value on life. To date, in ten years, ten lives have been saved because of the program; because of the hard work our fire department does to get the message out. When these people knock on your door and ask to check your smoke detector, let them in. WORKING SMOKE DETECTORS DO SAVE LIVES!
