Red Haus
Streetside red-efining living in Royal Oak
The waiting is nearly over for the first residents of the much anticipated Red Haus by Calgary condo giant, Streetside Development Corporation.
“We’ve been selling for a couple of years, so it’s pretty exciting to have people moving in soon,” says Kendra Milne, Streetside Development Corporation’s marketing co-ordinator, adding first possessions are slated for the German-inspired condominiums later this fall.
Originally inspired by a photo of a European castle, Royal Oak’s Red Haus – punctuated by its striking red roof tiles – will initially welcome residents to the first of four buildings, the Lindenburg, soon. A second equally colourful building in the 140-unit development is also slated to begin selling this fall, says Milne.
Unique to the project is its internal, manicured courtyard, which seems to appeal to a similar buyer as Streetside’s west-end Robson project, she says. “It’s a lot of young professionals who may or may not be working downtown.” Milne adds that a fitness centre and gathering room slated to be built within the next year in the Club Haus add to the overall appeal.
Despite steady sales, about 28 homes are still up for grabs at Red Haus, and range from 643-square-foot one-bedroom styles to two-bedroom, 1,002-square-foot selections – the latter of which also boast two bathrooms – now priced starting from the $220,000s before GST.
So far new buyers in their mid-20s to 30s, meshed with some mature owners looking to downsize from the family home and trade commitments of yardwork for a freer lifestyle, make up the majority of future residents. “It’s pretty well the range of buyer we expected – people looking to get into the market, plus people choosing (Red Haus) for the lifestyle,” says Milne.
While home shoppers who prefer a preview of their prospective digs will soon have the crimson roof to lead them, (the red clay tiles are slated to go on the first building any day), a show suite is open daily to show finishing details of the future funky abodes.
Standard fare in Red Haus kitchens includes upscale cabinetry in a selection of stains – complete with deep pot and pan drawers, durable and sleek Silgranite sinks, and Bosch brand cook tops, wall ovens and dishwashers.
Layouts themselves are as varied as the residents so far opting to call Red Haus home, says Milne. “All of the suites have a little different layout, but there are lots of big windows, and everybody has a patio or a balcony.”
Washer and dryer hook-ups are also included with ownership, as are lofty, nine-foot ceilings, a stunning blind package, wider-profile baseboards and door casings, and underground, heated parking sure to be appreciated on chilly Calgary winter mornings.
Right across from Red Haus, Streetside’s townhome address Latitude is also garnering its share of interest with buyers eyeing a prime northwesterly address with a reasonable price tag.
“Streetside has been building in northwest Calgary for quite a few years and really has an understanding of what buyers are looking for,” says Milne.
With the final 1,100- to 1,300-square-foot abodes with garages now selling from the $330,000s, it’s not surprising the mix of multi-level double-master bedroom or three-bedroom addresses at Latitude have been a great seller for the condominium arm of the Qualico Group of Companies.
“The whole area will have that red roof, to keep the style of the community consistent,” says Milne, adding turrets on end townhomes will only add to the interest of the new Plaza addresses, coming soon to Royal Oak.
Streetside will soon extend the theme and architectural style of the area and give would-be buyers yet another chance at Streetside condominium ownership. Would-be Plaza at Royal Oak residents can already register online for a chance to buy when sales for the project kick off later this year. CL
