As the full scope of Three Sisters Mountain Village, an hour’s drive west of Calgary, evolves, developers have begun to offer new and inviting options for buying into one of North America’s largest resort developments. One of these is Three Sisters Mountain Village Chalets, nestled below Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club. “For non-resident owners, purchasing a chalet provides the best of both worlds” enthuses Grant Potoroka, area manager for Cardel Custom Homes. “Owners enjoy the privacy of a freestanding home, yet as a bareland condominium project need never worry about maintenance such as gardening and snow removal. his makes them particularly appealing to those looking for a weekender or investment.”

Although golfers stride the fairway of the second hole of Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club right alongside Three Sisters Mountain Village Chalets, the development is protected from wayward drives by a densely wooded area.

Like all of Three Sisters Mountain Village, residents enjoy easy access to an integrated trail system that has been designed to accommodate walkers in summer and cross-country skiers in winter. From the chalets, it’s a short walk down to the Bow River, from where a paved trail leads upstream to Canmore, passing historic mining landmarks, and tempting fishing holes, and many open areas where views extend down the valley to Banff National Park.

Three Sisters Mountain Village Chalets comprises clusters of four two-bedroom chalets lining both sides of a quiet cul-de-sac. Each cluster of units has a common driveway, which divides to lead into attached single-car garages, artfully tucked out of sight from the road. The chalets themselves have a similar symmetrical outward appearance and footprint, but looks can be deceiving. There are four different designs, with a price range of $381,000 to $450,000. Many of the architectural features are subtle. One such example is the placement of gabled dormer windows. Where these roof features would have obstructed the view from adjacent chalets, the architects have cleverly left steep pitches.

The chalets average 1,200 square feet, but the interiors are more spacious than you may imagine, especially within the units that boast a vaulted ceiling above the main living area. Of the remaining unsold units, a few come with the option for purchasers to use have a hand in design features such as interior color schemes and bathroom finishes. While buyers have a choice between developed or undeveloped basements, one thing is common to all chalets—the basements have high ceilings, above-ground windows, and enough space to add a third bedroom and full bathroom.

With the first owners taking possession in April and construction of the remaining chalets nearly complete, sales have been brisk. “We’ve seen a mix of buyers” says Heather Dougall-Hall, marketing manager for Cardel Custom Homes. “A couple of local families have purchased chalets and made them their primary residence. Buyers from Calgary plan to use their units as weekenders, while others, coming from as far away as Europe, have purchased simply as an investment.”

From Calgary and its international airport, it takes a little over an hour to reach Three Sisters Mountain Village along the divided TransCanada Highway. As the rolling foothills give way to the more mountainous terrain of the

Canadian Rockies, the namesake Three Sisters distinctively come into view. To access Three Sisters Mountain Village Chalets, exit at the first Canmore interchange and follow Three Sisters Boulevard to Armstrong Place. The show home (101-109 Armstrong Place) is at the entrance to the development. The show home is open Thursday to Monday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Tuesday and Wednesday).
