Elevated living spaces

Is it possible to have a home close to work, entertainment, culture, commerce, and shopping? With SkyTower, it is.

SkyTower is a forward thinking development: a thirty storey tower with a total of 220 suites on 20 storeys ranging from one bedroom units (starting at 570 square feet) to two bedroom penthouses (just over 1200 square feet), prices starting at $150,000 up to $450,000.  Add to this: retail space within the two storey lobby, two floors of above-grade parking and five floors of office space.  Truly, it is a mixed-use building.  SkyTower’s exterior beckons to a connection with the past but also looks forward with vision to the future, all part of the revitalization of Victoria Park.

Mayor Dave Bronconnier, in his speech to the Calgary Real Estate Forum November 1, stated:  "City Council has made a conscious decision to add more density, both in new communities and existing ones……We also made a conscious decision to make strategic investments in our downtown and beltline…It demonstrates that our effort to increase densities near the core are working."

Calgarians are embracing this return to urban living. SkyTower advertised three months prior to their VIP night on October 27th and over 350 registrants arrived to become potential residents.   There has not been "another building of this magnitude … sold out in four hours", states Stella Lau, Project Sales Manager. (At present, SkyTower is taking names to be placed on a waiting list in case a suite becomes available.)  Buyers range from investors to individuals moving up from their tiny one bedroom apartments in older buildings.  Included are those who want a secondary home, as well as people who are tired of the daily commute to and from the suburbs.

At SkyTower, "we are trying to get away from the cookie cutter" style of floor plans, explains Lau.  This is evident in the funky floor plans.  Many angles and curves add interest to the living spaces.  Rooms in each unit are aligned to the extensive views outside the walls of windows, whether from the bedroom, dining area, living room, or kitchen.

The show suite, Aura, is a 990 square foot two bedroom two bath unit.  The hallway leads past a full bath and the laundry room into the living and dining areas, including a compact, yet functional galley kitchen with granite counter top and extended breakfast bar.  Stainless steel appliances are included with each unit, as are nine foot ceilings (ten foot ceilings on floors 26-30) and six inch baseboards.   The second bedroom is located off the living room.  The walk-through closet to the master bath in the master bedroom completes the Aura.  Suites include balconies of various shapes and sizes dependent on floor plan, as well as air conditioning.  Optional individual storage lockers are available.  One parking stall per unit is also included in the selling price.  Condo fees are estimated at $.36 per square foot and include access to the fitness room, multipurpose party room and lounge with fully equipped kitchen and bar. Having overnight company?  There will be two fully furnished guest suites for visiting family and friends available for a nominal fee.

Technology is not forgotten.  Paul Lee, one of the principal partners of the local Rockwell Development Group, responsible for Sky Tower, explains: "hardwiring will be present in each unit with wireless hotspots in common areas", including the lounge/party room, conference centre and board room.

When completed in mid 2008, SkyTower will make a stunning addition to Calgary’s skyline. Leave the hustle and bustle below and come on up!  Living starts on the 10th floor.
