New Penncross show suite may unlock Okotoks’ biggest secret

The small prairie town’s idyllic grasslands and the enchanting greens of Crystal Ridge Golf Course present a calming vista from the oversized windows of Penncross’s new show suite, the Eagle, on the top floor of the four-storey building.

Amidst the urban design flair of the 1,211-square-foot unit, the majesty of its surroundings is an oasis of relaxing beauty, brought even closer by its open design, 14-foot vaulted ceilings and abetted by the abundant amount of natural light that paints the interior with a heavenly glow.

Penncross has been blessed by its fortunate location tucked away on the northern edge of Okotoks, not far off Highway 2A leading into town. “We happen to be in the countryside, but still just five minutes away from shopping  and downtown Okotoks. But we are hidden away from all the busy thoroughfares, which is why we just may be the biggest secret in town,” says Streetside Developments’ Marketing Manager Angela Hill “Because of our secluded location even those from town are surprised to find us here, but this works for us. It’s a very quick drive to Calgary, because you don’t have to go through downtown Okotoks, no stoplights between here and the city,” she adds.

“Plus we’re right at the back of the Crystal Ridge Golf Course and the lake community of Crystal Shores, and it is a very relaxing setting.”

It may not be a secret for long, though, as Streetside has been  increasing awareness of this hidden gem, and just recently concluded a sales event that generated tremendous interest in the 147-unit project. The Eagle show suite was also recently opened for viewing, and what a view it does present!

The open concept floor plan works well with the wrap-around windows in the main living area, and the private balcony with natural gas barbecue hook-up allows owners to enjoy the surroundings even better. The granite countertops in the U-shaped kitchen, with a raised eating bar gives a touch of sophistication along with the five-piece stainless steel appliance package.

The Eagle is just one of the nine well-designed floor plans available, that range from 880 square-feet to 1,280 square-feet. Most are two-bedroom, two-bath units, although a one bedroom plus den design is also available. Prices range from the low $200,000s to the mid $300,000s.

Each unit comes standard with maple cabinetry in a choice of stylish stain colours for the kitchen and bathrooms. Low-E dual-pane windows, 30-inch upper cabinets with crown moulding, full height tiles kitchen backsplash and raised eating bar are standard. Also, designer paint and décor selections with many combinations allow owners to personalize their home. All two-bedroom units come with two parking stalls. Everyone also gets a membership to the Crystal Shores Lake Club.

Several in-house amenities complete the picture, including a gym/fitness centre, indoor and outdoor putting greens to practice your short game, a games room, and a library with fireplace on the fourth floor common area. Lushly landscaped grounds dotted by Victorian-style gazebos provide a perfect setting for impromptu outside gatherings with neighbours.

But what surprises Hill the most is that Penncross buyers have been predominantly from the young set. “The minute you say a multi-family project is near a golf course, the first thing to come to mind is that it’s for older buyers, but here at Penncross we’re seeing a lot of the 21-35 age demographic who are taken by the idyllic location and its proximity to Calgary, a no-hassle drive to work,” she says. “Although we also do get our fair share of 45-and-older buyers who are attracted to Penncross’s quiet solitude and the promise of golf.”

Hill says the location really encourages an active lifestyle. “With the miles of walking and biking paths right at your doorstep and a getaway to the mountains just minutes away, Penncross owners might want to keep it a secret to themselves.”
