Where you choose to live is one of the most important decisions you make. How you live is another. More than an investment in real estate, your home is an investment in lifestyle. A reflection of who you are. A haven where you can be just that. What if you could have every aspect of your lifestyle converge in one fabulous place? Meet Olive - a new concept for urban living in Calgary where Live, Work, Rest and Play are synonymous with home.

Set in the heart of one of Calgary’s most valued inner-city communities, Olive is part of The Bridges development that encompasses the former Calgary General Hospital site. Designed to capture the cultural diversity and inner-city vitality of Bridgeland while at the same time emerge as an environment distinct in its own character, The Bridges sets a new standard for urban development in Calgary.

Within the framework of this dynamic new community, Olive is quintessential urban.

“We took a bold step to create something unique for The Bridges project,” says Charron Ungar, Vice President of Product Development at Homes by Avi. “We wanted to draw from our experience in other inner-city developments and at the same time bring in fresh ideas. Our main focus with Olive was to consider both the live and work elements of lifestyle and create a visually appealing design that brings them into range both at home and within the community.”

In a dramatic departure from the ordinary, Olive liberates you from the mundane by offering four distinct product types in one striking development. Luxury live-work condos, residential townhomes and two-storey apartments over street access retail bays form the structure of Olive’s exemplary urban design. Of the 27 units that comprise Olive, more than half are live-work plans that let you take control of your space, your way.

“What we’ve done with the live-work units is give prominence to work space by devoting the entire street-access main level to accommodate the specific working environments of our buyers,” says Ungar.

“Two-storey living space starts on the second level in arrangements that are unique to each buyer. Some will choose to clearly distinguish living areas from work areas while others may choose to let each flow into the other.”

Designed to merge seamlessly into the urban landscape of The Bridges, Olive is a community within a community. At least half of the units feature European style roof-top terraces that reflect Bridgeland’s cultural nuances and extend living space for residents to enjoy an open air view of Olive’s inner courtyard. All of the units have southern exposure and views of the courtyard, an arrangement that directs a shared interest in the community and encourages casual interaction among residents who will live and work at Olive.

Ungar credits the authors of The Bridges master plan, awarding-winning Calgary firm Sturgess Architecture, for the successful collaboration with Homes by Avi’s design team that moved Olive forward from concept to its unique cosmopolitan design.

“Every facet of our company recognizes that Olive is a great opportunity for us to show our stuff,” he says. “ We empowered some very talented people in developing the concept and implementing the design for Olive and put a lot of resources into common area planning in order to establish Olive as a unique identity within a vibrant urban village”.

While Homes by Avi is as anxious to release Olive to the marketplace as condo buyers are to make it their new live-work address, units can not be released for sale until final approvals are in from The City of Calgary, land developer for The Bridges project. According to Ungar, interest so far has been phenomenal.

“The response to Olive is a clear indication that this is the type of lifestyle community the urban market demands,” he says. “As a developer, it’s important that we keep up with the demands of the market and meet the changing lifestyle needs of our buyers.”
