It’s appropriate that with the approach of spring that “green” would be the topic of conversation at the Calgary Home + Garden Show, as Karoleena Homes unveils their enviro-friendly home building techniques.

Karoleena Custom Homes will be a partner in the Spring 2010 edition of the show to be held February 25-28 at the BMO Centre, and will feature for the first time a full-size single-family home (available for sale) built by the Calgary-based builder right on the show floor.

“Take a tour through their Karovation Home Feature and learn ways to incorporate the latest trends while staying green,” says Marketplace Events show manager Terri Higgins. “It’s the future of living.”

Karoleena has spearheaded the concept of System-Built homes, a cutting-edge green building technique that starts home construction off site in an environmentally controlled building centre. The custom structure will take two days to set-up and will feature products, design and décor from other show exhibitors.

Karoleena Custom Homes partner, Kurt Goodjohn, says their building system not only helps them achieve the goal of energy-efficiency and sustainability but also is also more readily adaptable in customization and following design influences of customers.

Karoleena hopes to build upwards of 50 such homes per year within a very short period of time and the advantages of the building system will afford the customers the benefit of cost savings through faster build times. “We are actually starting on two three-storey projects in Erlton with units ranging in size from 1,600 square-feet to 2,200 square-feet,” Goodjohn adds.

Karoleena Custom Homes has positioned itself as one of Western Canada’s first and System-Built home builders for the urban market. They recently completed a high-end four-plex development, known as “The Graycie”, in Calgary’s Marda Loop area in which all modules were craned together in eight hours.  Currently, Karoleena has eight other System-Built homes scheduled for completion between now and August 2010.

“We are very excited about this commitment,” says Higgins, “and I’m eager to see the results.”

On the garden side of the show, Higgins promises that all green thumbs will be more than satisfied with the show’s line-up, and that Alberta’s top landscapers will be on-site for interviews about landscaping styles, planting tips and more.

Included in the show are:
The Scope of the Scape – Dream Gardens presented by Westcon Precast and Countryside Landscapes & Garden Centre. As the 2009 winner of the Best in Show category, this dream team is sure to wow guest for anything from lawn to pond and back again.
