Putting the “Oh!” back in Eau Claire

Oscar offers Eau Claire luxury living at its most affordable

Eau Claire is Calgary’s equivalent to New York’s Upper East Side. It’s one of the most affluent addresses in the city, where you’ll find some of the most exclusive homes and high-rise condos. So, it’s a little surprising to know of a brand new condo project in the area offering 1,300-square-foot two-bedroom units at the unheard of starting price of $560,000.

The Oscar is turning heads not just because of its elegant and luxurious finish and distinctive exterior architectural design, but its deal-of-the-decade pricing. And it sure attracted a lot of attention when it held its grand opening this February 13 and 14.

“Saying the Oscar represents affordable luxury is a bit clichéd, but it’s the truth,” says Todd Gow, CEO of CondoSource Group of Companies, which handles the sales and marketing for the 11-storey concrete and glass tower. “No one else in Eau Claire can offer the kind of value we have at the Oscar at these prices.”

The 30-suite luxury high rise is located just off the serenity of Prince’s Island Park and the vivacity of Eau Claire Market. “It’s the quietest part of the Eau Claire district, far from the hustle bustle of the core but just a short walk away from the entertainment epicentre of downtown, with lots of new restaurants and unique shops all around,” Gow says.

He adds that Eau Claire condos are in the higher strata of downtown pricing. “Penthouse suites in Eau Claire usually start at $1.8 million, while ours are just around the $1 million mark. Our townhomes also start at a very affordable $699,900.”

But aside from the pricing, Oscar is different from all the other developments downtown because of the range of products it offers. They have penthouses (two of them, one is 1,756 square-feet and the other is 1,655 square-feet); four townhomes, all on the ground floor, all with private entrances and courtyards; as well as apartment-style units in between (three units each on eight floors). All these come with an executive fit and finish, Gow says.

“Our penthouse and townhome units are handsomely furnished with high-end specs, including SubZero refrigerators, granite countertops, bamboo flooring, and have a very distinguished, exclusive feel. Many units feature glass countertops and backsplashes for that sophisticated, metropolitan look. Some units on the second floor even entail their own private roof-top patio garden area.”

The Yorkshire show suite is a fantastic representation of the Oscar’s potential, as the 1,377-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bath, plus den suite reveals a remarkable touch for using all available space wisely, and an enviable attention to detail.

All suites have nine-foot ceilings, hardwood flooring in living and dining areas, and a large natural-gas fireplace. Two-bedroom tower suites each have long exterior walls of floor to ceiling windows and a corner wrap-around balcony.

One-bedroom apartment style units are unusually roomy at 808 square-feet and are priced from $399,900, while two-bedroom models begin at an ample  1,313 square-feet from $560,000.

“Luxury Eau Claire living in units of this size will likely never again be this affordable,” Gow says. “Our suites are perfect for that metropolitan niche of really any age group; maybe empty nesters, singles too, or working couples—but the bottom line is there is extraordinary value in our units that every buyer will certainly appreciate.”

“Oscar is more of a boutique building than just a regular residential condo tower, and you can hardly call it a high-density building because we have only 30 units in a space that would typically accommodate more than double the amount. It is spacious, executive living in the downtown core at a new more affordable price that will likely never be seen again,” Gow points out. “Prices will no doubt rise over the course of the next six to 12 months and people should not miss this chance.”

The 30-unit concrete high-rise is ready for immediate cccupancy.
