In full swing: Penncross in Okotoks

It isn’t how much space you have, it is what you do with the space that counts.

Streetside’s stunning new pair of Penncross show suites, now open for the viewing on the Okotoks south side, are proof that rightsizing does not also have to mean downsizing.

Kendra Milne, marketing manager for Streetside Development Corporation, says buyers don’t have to get rid of their prized possessions to move into one of Penncross’s 147 apartment-style condominiums.

“You are not sacrificing anything by the condo lifestyle because there is so much cabinetry and space and storage,” Milne says.

The Abbey is a 1,080-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bathroom model that combines the living room and kitchen in an open concept, leaving plenty of space to breathe in the master and guest bedroom.

At 12-feet by 17-feet, the master bedroom is big enough to accommodate a king size and a chaise or a reading nook with room to spare. The corridor-style walk-in closet leads to the spacious master bathroom , which boasts a walk-in double shower.

In the kitchen a corner pantry with built-in shelving will save owners from unnecessary trips to the grocery store.

While the Cart may sound like a strange name for a floor plan, the name, like others such as the Eagle and the Fairway, is derived from golf jargon because the community backs on to Okotoks’ Crystal Ridge Golf Course.

The Cart is the largest model available at Penncross at 1,280 square-feet. In addition to the two large bedrooms and the wide-open kitchen and living space, the tall windows open the Cart up to the outside.

Many of the ten models available at Penncross are variations of the show suites, purposely designed that way to satisfy buyers’ needs for a visual of what future homes will look like. Besides the two-bedroom, two-bathroom models, there is also a one-bedroom-with-den floor plan, that is selling quickly, Milne says.

Buyers have four interior design palettes to choose from, but each has plenty of selection within it. For example, each palette has a choice of plush, berber or shag carpeting and a standard tile or linoleum.

Five black Energy-Star appliances come standard, including an over- the-range microwave and front- loading washers and dryers. An undermount Silgranit sink, which provides superior durability and styling, is also a standard feature. Meanwhile, two parking stalls are provided for owners of two-bedroom models.

Penncross’ Victorian-inspired exterior styling includes several turrets that allow for not only fantastic interior styling, but also large, tall windows. And, there is plenty to look at.

To the west are the mountain views, and on the east side of the building is the golf course with sights prairies. “We wanted to preserve the natural setting and the views,” Milne says.

Streetside wanted to keep the golfers on the green year-round. In addition to two outdoor putting greens designed for resident use, the second floor will be home to an indoor putting green.

But non-golfers will also find their share of perks to suit their tastes at Penncross, where every floor will boast an amenity room of some sort. The first level hosts a fitness centre, the third will sport a games room for chess and checker aficionados and the fourth floor will house a library, for quiet reading or the ideal spot for a book exchange amongst residents.

Milne said the games room will also provide residents a space for entertaining guests.

Outside, a gazebo, walking paths and courtyard also promote outdoor pursuits.

To visit the Penncross show homes take Highway 2 south to Highway 2A to Okotoks. Turn right on Milligan Drive and left on 32nd Street. Another left on Crystal Green Lane will take you directly to the Penncross sales suite at 129, 1 Crystal Green Lane, Okotoks.

Hours are Monday through Thursday 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays, weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.penncrosscondos.com
