Bang On: Bang & Olufsen phones
Line of chic and ergononic phones a conversation starter for your digs
Seeking a stylish phone for your condo? Look no further than Bang & Olufsen, for well-designed, high-quality phones.
“The BeoCom 2 is yet another example of our commitment to developing innovative and original products that make a noticeable difference and provide the ultimate user experience,” says Michael Aagaard Andersen, president of Bang & Olufsen America. Internationally recognized for its distinct aesthetics and design, the two-line cordless phone has had tremendous success in the foreign marketplace.
The BeoCom 2 and other Bang & Olufsen telephones are simply ideal for stylish, contemporary Edmonton and Calgary condos. Bang & Olufsen has a store in Calgary on Stephen Avenue.

Bang & Olufsen
Who is Bang & Olufsen? Founded in 1925 in Struer, Denmark, Bang & Olufsen a/s is world renowned for its distinctive range of quality consumer electronic products.
The company’s vision is “courage to constantly question the ordinary in search of surprising, long-lasting experiences.” The Bang & Olufsen Group manufactures televisions, music systems, loudspeakers, telephones, and medical and multimedia products. It employs more than 2,400 and its products are sold in over 60 countries worldwide.
Beo Com 2
Designed by Bang & Olufsen’s chief designer David Lewis, this cordless phone is formed from a single piece of aluminium. The BeoCom 2 rises up from its charger in a gentle curve that matches the shape of the human face. The cordless phone sits naturally in the hand of the user and remains comfortable no matter how long a conversation lasts.
The handsets offer a range of intelligent features, including a shared phone book with up to 200 numbers and names that are stored in the system base. After a name and number is entered in one handset, it is automatically distributed to every other connected to the same base. Each system base can support up to eight handsets, while four can be used simultaneously.
Since BeoCom 2 is based on the same technology as its two-line predecessor BeoCom 1, the two models will work together seamlessly. If needed, they can share the same base. Incredibly, they can be used to adjust the volume of a Bang & Olufsen home theatre or sound system.
This design-savvy number comes in table and wall-mounted versions in seven colours—white, blue, black, dark gray, yellow, silver and natural aluminium. The unique, solitary “attractive, appealing, never aggressive” ringing tune is part of the phone’s personality. Danish musician/composer Kenneth Knudsen specially created the airy, modern piece. The tune combines musical notes with a special recording of aluminium tubes falling on paving stones.
“We call it a ringing tune rather than a tone, as it contains many more elements than a simple note,” says Kenneth Knudsen.
“This ringing tune has an acoustic texture of metal and glass, representing the physical components of the phone itself. Within one second, we wish to communicate a mood, a feeling, an impression; just like you get when you meet the physical product.”
BeoCom 4
Also new on the phone scene, the company’s BeoCom 4 is a cordless model with a two-component handset and base combined for streamlined functionality and clear conversation. Sleek and lightweight, it operates primarily through the raised wheel located on the handset. Navigating the wheel is a one-step thumb motion to scroll through the phone book and call list.
The base and handset are asymmetrically divided into two halves for a high level of interaction. When placed together, they form an upright cylinder. But when apart, they appear two separate fully functioning visual entities.
Ergonomically designed, the phone is meant to be comfortable to hold during long conversations. It features a smooth and durable plastic surface, with a UV lacquer to give it a highly scratch-resistant exterior, with colour options of black, blue and beige.
Users can travel up to 984 feet outdoors and 164 feet indoors from the base without decreased functionality or sound quality. The adjustable headset, EarSet 1, consists of a loudspeaker and microphone, built on the same design as other Bang & Olufsen earphones.
A plug-and-play concept, the standalone phone system doesn’t require any downloads or programming before using the device. Users can simply plug in the BeoCom 4 and go, and can even bring the handset around with them—or be completely hands-free with the comfortably fitting EarSet 1 Home headset.
“High-quality sound reproduction from the built-in loudspeaker is ensured by a combination of Bang & Olufsen skills in acoustics and advanced digital signal processing,” says Dave Zapfel, product manager. “We strive to ensure that you experience the caller’s voice as clearly as you do when speaking.”
