Sarina Homes offers lux townhome living paired with a sustainable footprint

Optimum value, long-term savings in energy costs and a healthier living environment are all available in the inner city, and it all starts in Killarney through a fresh and dynamic company, Sarina Homes.

Launched by young professionals with a passion for the environment and an apparent understanding of their clientele, Sarina Homes was born with the intention to build luxury townhomes in desirable communities in the inner city. 

 “Sarina Homes is about style with intelligence,” says Nazim Virani, president of Sarina Homes. “Our style offers contemporary and unique urban designs that cater to luxury.”  Nazim and his brother, Riyaz, started the company only four years ago. Most people think building green costs more and it normally does, but we’ve been imaginative with new ideas and efforts to streamline the costs, adds Virani.

“Sarina Homes’ intelligence is about building green—making sure that we build sustainable and energy efficient homes,” adds Steve Norris, who came on board as project manager last year. The three share a common desire to build luxury homes while keeping the environment in mind.

The Arisa is a multi-family four-plex currently under construction at two locations in Killarney—1927 36 Street S.W. and 1927 32nd Street S.W. The former offers an estimated move this coming winter, while the latter foresees possessions next spring.

“The response to Sarina Homes’ first few projects has been overwhelming,” says Virani, “which gives us more incentive to do better each time at allowing concerns for the environment to play an integral role in our current and future projects.”

From recycling most materials on-site to building with Logix Insulated Concrete Forms System (ICF), Sarina Homes is a certified green builder as recognized by Built Green™. One of the builder’s goals is offering eco-friendly building features without passing on the costs to the homeowner. As an added bonus the company’s price points beat some conventional projects. Nazim adds that Sarina Homes offers a better product in terms of luxury and in terms of energy efficiency than many of other available developments. Sarina is moving towards building with as many sustainable materials that offer reduced maintenance as possible.

 “As our project manager, Steve is the big force behind building green, and he prides himself on taking care of the environment and creating awareness.” says Nazim. “Steve directs the recycling of materials on every site. He makes sure we do the best we can.

 “It’s important to recognize the fact that building green is fairly new and we are fairly young,” says Norris, “so we are progressively adding ‘green’ materials and practices to every project and we will continue adding features under the direction of the Built Green™ program to build a more responsible product each time.” 

The Arisa’s contemporary features are designed in-house and include a built in iPOD docking station with four-zone sound control and built in speakers throughout the home, professional kitchen design with granite countertops, a gas line on the deck for a natural gas barbecue and a hot-tub option, fully finished basement, and each ensuite includes a built-in European spa.

Each open unit is comprised of two large bedrooms with the flexibility for a fourth addition in the basement, three-and-a-half bathrooms, kitchen, den, recreation room, living area and an eating nook. Each unit is 1,820 square-feet and upward, starting at $529,900.

In addition to Arisa’s insulated concrete form (ICF) basements, energy efficient insulated building envelope, Energy Star appliances and lighting are also part of her environmentally-conscious package. Each unit boasts compact fluorescent lighting and other financial and energy-saving features. 

The building’s exterior is earthy and warm. The acrylic stucco’s Styrofoam insulation provides improved insulation and the fibreglass faux-wood front door is durable and energy efficient.  

Sarina Homes is recognized by the National Home Warranty, The Canadian Home Builders’ Association—Calgary Region and BuiltGreen™.

Another one of Sarina Homes’ projects currently on the market is the Sara development. This 2,700-square-foot semi-detached unit is available at 3410 21st Avenue SW, and the price starts at $749,900.
