6th and Tenth heralds new era in downtown condo scene

Toronto’s Brad J. Lamb has been on the cutting edge of the condo development scene out east, and his brand of hip, cosmopolitan residential high rises have had a transformative effect on the skylines of the cities he’s built in. Now, he’s making his mark in Calgary, and 6th and Tenth promises to bring the kind of cool factor that’s been missing in one of Canada’s fastest growing cities.

With an eye on modern architecture that brings an energetic, urban feel, 6th and Tenth promises to bring Calgary in line with the big cities of the world as far as downtown condo living is concerned, and give it a landmark building worthy of one of Canada’s emerging urban centres.

“Calgary’s downtown is experiencing a renaissance, the city is turning away from being a suburban-centric town into one that has a lively urban core where people would like to live in,” Lamb tells Condo Living. “You see this in the new architecture like the Bow Tower office building and the Beltline revitalization initiatives, there’s a growing cultural and entertainment scene that hasn’t been seen in Calgary’s downtown area in decades. It’s a very exciting city to be in right now.”

But Lamb thinks that what is lacking is the kind of residential condo buildings that will really mark the city as a young, thriving and affluent metropolis that it has become.

6th and 10th is Lamb Development Corporation’s first condo development here and it promises to bring the kind of modern sophistication and high style that has become its trademark in Toronto and Ottawa where their brand is already established.

“We’re bringing the kind of modern attitude to living in the downtown, and raise the bar as far as architecture and design goes,” Lamb says. “It will bring a new attitude and a totally different look and feel to downtown living.”

The centralized Beltline location also works well, putting it in walking distance to Calgary’s bustling central core, close to downtown, Uptown 17 Avenue and many restaurants, parks, fitness centres, cafes and art galleries.

The units themselves will be very sleek and sophisticated with all the modern finishes and offer the best conveniences. Ceilings are at least nine-feet high with floor-to-ceiling windows, pre-finished engineered wood floors, porcelain tile in bathroom, seven European style appliances to go with the European style cabinetry, and glass tile backsplash.

“All the suites feature six-foot deep large balconies, and they all come with a natural gas nozzle for year-round barbecuing. Perfect for al fresco dining, relaxing with friends, or just taking in the view, these great spaces and add valuable square footage to your home,” Lamb says.

Suites start from 449-square-foot one-bedroom at $210,900 to a 1,650-square-foot two-bedroom penthouse at $1.09 million. Much of the building is aimed at the younger, urban crowd. “We’re selling small apartments to younger people, investors, downsizers, who look at it as something they can build on, a place they don’t necessarily have to live forever but where they’ll have a good time and a comfortable life while staying there.”

To this end, Lamb says they are creating amenity areas where homeowners will “really want to spend time in, including the pool in the outdoor terrace, with a fireplace and attached to a clubroom.”

The 31-storey, 232-unit building will have cascading mini-waterfalls with stone monoliths, and elegant treed gardens surrounding its podium. They all conform to a beautifully designed outdoor piazza style art park that redefines the entire streetscape.

“The banded granite stone hardscape is a particularly unique feature; it’s a visually arresting highly graphic element that extends the straight lines of the building’s podium to the street and through the lobby,” Lamb says.

Response to 6th and Tenth has been phenomenal, long line-ups marked the beginning of sales and 80 units have so far been sold. “We’ve been consistently selling four units per week, we’re the hottest selling condo in Calgary,” he adds.
