Avenue’s clean lines, lush textures create compelling style for all ages

Avenue West End was always envisioned as the epitome of stylish downtown living, and it won’t be long before the 24-storey glass and steel high-rise becomes the premiere address in this part of Calgary’s core. Bringing this vision to life is an enormous design challenge, and even more challenging is building a presentation centre that will do the vision justice.

Scott Trepp knew how big of an undertaking this would be, but the principal of Trepp Design Inc. certainly has the experience and skill to pull it off. Trepp and the rest of the TDI team were behind the interior design of several other condo towers in the Beltline.

“The design concept for the Avenue West End show suites were hinged on the idea of having clean, modern lines layered with lux textures and patterns to create individual spaces that have a specific personality,” he tells Condo Living.

“It was of the utmost importance to create classic interiors that allow for a variety of lifestyles and decorating styles.”

Trepp adds that the Avenue show suites were designed with specific buyers in mind. “Rather than themes, we work to concepts of sophistication, classic design and quality. At Avenue, we designed each suite with a specific homeowner in mind; the one-bedroom is designed for a professional female, while the two-bedroom design appeals to a professional couple.”

Avenue, a joint development between Grosvenor Americas (Grosvenor) and Cressey Development Group (Cressey), brings a luxurious presence to the corner of 5th Avenue and 10th Street S.W. Construction of the first phase is well underway with anticipated completion starting in Spring 2017. The two show suites in their on-site presentation centre at 1037 5th Avenue S.W. gives a taste of the lifestyle that awaits.

The bathroom is a blissful retreat in each Avenue suite. “Ensuite and secondary bathrooms feature Italian porcelain floors, wood veneer cabinetry and medicine cabinets, marble slab countertops and back-painted matte glass wall tiles,” Trepp says. “Each tub and shower has a featured mosaic-tiled soap niche.”

The ensuite or main bathroom includes heated porcelain tile flooring for year-round warmth. Frameless glass showers add to the sophisticated allure. Custom bathroom vanities come in horizontal grain wood cabinetry with soft close doors and drawers, and modern brushed nickel hardware.

Suites range from 572 to 2,315 square-feet, and the open-concept design fits the modern lifestyle envisioned in Avenue. “Large living spaces can be made more intimate through the strategic selection and placement of furnishings. Area carpets are a great way to instantly punctuate a grouping and define a specific space. Anchoring a space with a large dining table and pendant lighting also works to create intimate zones.”

Polished quartz slab countertops feature an overhang to provide extra counter space for friends and family. A sophisticated interlocking marble backsplash offers eye-catching elegance.

With ample storage and large counter space, the CresseyKitchen™ has a revolutionary walk-through design with seamless flow into the rest of the home. It includes a full-sized French-door refrigerator, a sleek slide-out hood fan and a five-burner gas cooktop by Porter & Charles. Both the oven and microwave are built into the wall cabinetry.

There are three colour schemes offered in Avenue, each with a different engineered hardwood floor: walnut, oak and ash. “The countertops in the kitchens are quartz slab with a marble back splash, and marble slab countertops in the bathroom. Bathroom floor tiles are Italian porcelain. Cabinetry is wood veneer in two schemes and white lacquer in the third.”

The CresseyKitchen™ makes its debut in Calgary at Avenue West End, and it is a spotlight feature. “The benefit of the CresseyKitchen™ is its incorporation of an appliance wall that houses the fridge, ovens and additional storage. Integrating  this in a full wall across from the other kitchen cabinetry space, that would otherwise be a circulation path, serves as an extension of the kitchen,” Trepp says.
