Hope at Large - Evanston’s “theme park”

The Loop appeals to nature lovers with park features

Curb appeal is always a great selling point for homes. The nicer the exterior look the better chance of getting potential buyers to look at the interior — which could lead to a deal being made.

When it comes to wooing buyers of new homes, StreetSide Developments has gone far beyond the front yard in terms of curb appeal with its uniquely- styled 200-home neighbourhood called The Loop in Evanston, the newest multi-family element in Qualico Communities’ popular northwest development.

The Loop is a quiet enclave of four phases surrounding a circular extensively-landscaped park — but it goes further than that.

Front doors look onto the Rocky Mountain park and back doors in each phase open to smaller internal park settings.

“It’s not a very dense project and like all other StreetSide developments it is designed specifically to blend with the natural landscape of the area,” says Kimberley Orr, StreetSide’s senior marketing co-ordinator.

And unlike some other townhome locations, homes in The Loop will not look directly into the neighbouring backyards and will, instead, have views of the individual themes in the landscaping.

“That all goes into what makes the project special. It’s the unique landscape theming that has been incorporated into each of the four phases showing off Southern Alberta’s natural landscaping — Rocky Mountain, Foothills, Parkland, and Grassland,” says Orr.

Using a different landscaping theme for each of the phases gives each phase its own identity, which, in turn, sets the project apart from others nearby, she adds.

“What we want to emphasize with The Loop is that the outside areas are just as important as the inside of the homes, it’s a total package,” adds Ian Macdonald, recently appointed director of marketing and sales at StreetSide.

The Loop is made up of three-storey townhomes available in two- and three-bedroom models measuring from 1,205 to 1,511 square-feet and priced from the $290,000 range. Three models are available — the Amaranth, the Rosewood and the Carmine.

With seven different floor plans that allow double master bedrooms to be created, the homes also come with either single or tandem garages. And to better incorporate the outdoor amenities, the homes have oversized windows and two outdoor living spaces.

“I don’t think it’s difficult to understand why we’ve seen people buying, even out of our sales trailer and off blueprints before the first-phase show home opened. It has to do with the theming, location, the enclave setting, and our high level of construction and finishing standards,” says Orr.

Launched last October, the first phase of 36 homes is at the halfway point in sales and has led to the recent release of the second phase which will have 62 homes including the opening of a show home.

Interior features of the open-concept homes include: stainless steel appliances, flat-panel of Shaker-style cabinetry, full-height kitchen backsplashes, Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring on the main level and laundry, granite or quartz countertops in the kitchen, porcelain tile at the entry and in bathrooms, knockdown stipple ceilings, glass deck railings on balconies. high-efficiency furnace, large hot water tank, smoke and carbon dioxide detectors, and barbecue gas line on the patio or balcony.

The exteriors are a mix of vinyl siding, fiber-cement panels, and stone accents, 30-year roof shingles, energy-efficient dual-pane windows with low-E coating, concrete ground-floor patios, glass deck railings, and a sound attenuation system

Not seen that often in Calgary, The Loop has been created in the Saltbox architectural theme popular on the east coast and show pitched roofs and large front windows all located on a gently-curving streetscape.

The show home in The Loop is located on Evanscrest Manor N.W. and is open Monday through Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. and on weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m. It is closed Fridays.
