It doesn’t take much to spark the imagination of veteran interior designer, Katherine McCallum. A spot of colour, a swatch of textile, a decorative accent — and, boom — she’s off to wherever her creativity and imagination will take her.

Her latest creation is the three new show homes of StreetSide Developments’ Vivace homes, where she demonstrates how interior design can transport one to different places — and it can all start with the smallest things.

Katherine’s eyes are always open to new ideas and spotting inspirational items and then processing the information through her designers’ mind is a constant process at every waking moment.

For Vivace’s new B1 show home, all it took was a swatch of navy blue fabric, and Katherine was off to creating a seaside theme for the two-bedroom home. With mustard yellow and gold accents and interspersed with
sea shells, starfish and other beach themed décor, one can almost feel the cool sea breeze as you walk through the 928-square-foot suite.

“I can see a couple who love to entertain falling in love with this concept. Also the way the home was designed goes a long way in completing the scene — the extended dining table off the centre island is a great
selection — and the design complements this innovation that was already here.”

Vivace is Italian for “lively” and “vivid,” both of which perfectly describe the captivating design of this multi-family project. There are two other show homes in Vivace at 103, 8530 – 8A Avenue S.W. and they are just
as imaginative as can be expected.

As in any home, the kitchen is the heart of this home and provides an excellent canvas where Katherine expressed her creativity. The ceiling-height cabinetry, the extended dining table and the generous island all
combine to create the perfect setting for entertaining with friends.

The nautical theme comes alive in the living room, notice the whale tail and starfish accents and artwork commissioned from Marie Manon Studios, but the focal point is the electric fireplace in the middle of the room. “It completes the modern seaside retreat look I was aiming for, it adds warmth — literally and figuratively,” she says.

Vivace’s stylish colour collection includes timeless quartz countertops throughout, chic tile and flooring details, top of the line appliances, oversized kitchens with an abundance of storage (including a walk-in pantry), along with so much more.

The captivating seascape mural in the master bedroom of the two-bedroom suite brings it all together, showing how good interior design can enrich lives. “I got this mural from Sonata Design, I thought it gave the perfect touch to the room,” Katherine says.

Katherine continued her beach house vision in the ensuite with small touches, but functionality is never far behind in Vivace’s design. The master bathroom has everything a home buyer needs in a home. Featuring double sinks, a fully tiled walk in shower with glass door and plenty of storage this ensuite fits in perfectly to every lifestyle.

Linen shelving in both bathrooms in this home adds to the practicality of the design. There are two other show homes that Katherine designed in Vivace — including the ever-popular two-storey penthouse plan — that further complete the vision for what life would be like in this highly sought-after project in the heart of the thriving West 85th boutique shopping destination in the southwest.
