August 2009 | Issue 116

Tradtionally, summer is the time when Calgarians take to the water for a little rest and relaxation, or recreation. And that means heading out to one of the many recreation centres or outdoor pools around town, or even slipping into your very own backyard hot tub or pool. Unfortunately, with the damp weather we’ve had so far this year, you only need to step outside to experience a little instant ‘liquid refreshment’.

But fear not, for methinks better days are on the horizon. August is almost always the hottest year of the month in these parts, and that still leaves plenty of time to hit the wave pools and waterparks before back to school time. And, whether you like to get out in public and splash around or prefer the privacy of your own deck, we’ve got the lowdown on how you can quench your thirst — for pools that is.

And, to help you get into the swim of things, this month’s Focus On and Gadgets pictorial features will introduce you to everything you need to be the coolest cat at your local beach, pool or hot tub party.

For folks whose idea of a good time is a little more laid back, check out the article on age-restricted condos and our community profile on the town of Strathmore. If you’re looking for a lifestyle that lets you move at a little slower pace, while still enjoying everything along the way, these might be options you’d like to consider.

Of course, as always, our ‘man about town’, Pepper Rodriguez, managed to squeeze in visits to several different condo projects this month and it’s a nice variety. From the eightwelve and Riverfront Pointe condos in downtown Calgary, to Edenmore and Ranchview Vistas in the city’s northwest, there’s a size and price range to match every buyer’s desires.
