It’s showtime!

Home design is a very personal business, just ask Jillian Harris, the host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, who believes that everyone’s home should be a reflection of their personality. The former star of The Bachelorette is one of the headliners at this year’s Calgary Home + Design Show from September 22 to 25 at the BMO Centre, Stampede Park, and she will be talking about how we can spice up our home design by revealing pieces of ourselves. Check out our interview with her in this issue’s feature article.

The Calgary Home + Design Show is certainly big business, as well, attracting more than 30,000 visitors every year. It is a big stage for our resident designer Aly Velji, but it’s nothing new to this rising design star, who gives us a sneak peak at what we can expect to hear from him at the show in his monthly Design & Décor feature.

It is a jam-packed show issue, as we shine a light on Prestwick Place by Cardel Lifestyles which will be unveiling a new show suite with a completely new design at what has proven to be one of its most popular development. Their new two-bedroom design is also made available at an even more affordable price point to go along with its 10th Anniversary celebrations.

Also included in this issue are reviews of the new The Gala in Applewood that recently held their grand opening and marks the first new multi-family development in this part of the southeast for a long time. Evanston Square by Streetside has also come out with new show suites for their row townhomes in multifaceted development in this northern neighbourhoods. While Aura in Copperfield makes a definite impression with the wider designs of their townhomes.

If it seems to be a busy month, you can sit down and relax with our select choice of benches and ottomans that we feature in our Focus On photo spread. Or chill out and watch the fish swim in our Shopping feature on aquariums — respite for the soul and the feet.

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Alberta (CHBA – Alberta) also came out with the finalists of the 2011 Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing Calgary Home Builders Association. The association had record-breaking 283 entries this year from builders and renovators across the province. Winners will be announced next month, and you know Condo Living will be there to cover that.

The future for the multi-family market certainly seems as sunny as the weather has been recently, as a number of multi-family developers are continuing to see a huge number of traffic at their show suites. But whatever the future brings, you can trust that Condo Living will be there to provide the latest market news and developments.
