Changing seasons

Fall is nearly here, and that’s my favourite time of the year. Growing up in the Philippines, we didn’t have these changes in the seasons (it was either raining, or it wasn’t), and I’ve really grown to love this time of the year when the leaves start to turn and there is that crispness in the air. Homebuyers seem to love this season, too, judging from the increased traffic to show homes and show suites.

Our cover feature on Streetside Development’s Ginger Park best exemplifies the phenomenon, as these townhomes complex in Wentworth have spiced up the west-side lifestyle and made it more affordable and stylish. Down to its last few units, Ginger Park has been busy, as many realize that this is one of the few opportunities left to enjoy this kind of affordable million-dollar lifestyle.

Then, there’s University City, which is a prime example of the renewed optimism surging through the Calgary condo market. Last year, University City broke all kinds of records in the number of sales it did in a day, now this innovative development in Brentwood is poised to do it again when it launches its newest phase. Highbury, a victim of the recession a couple of years ago, seems to be making a strong comeback, as its affordable luxury features have found favour among a  growing number of singles and empty nesters. While Enclave by Avi Urban is another southwest development that touts superior features and finish that this multi-family arm of renowned builder Homes By Avi has been known for.

Aly Velji gives us a glimpse on upcoming trends in kitchen design in his Design and Décor monthly column; readers say they find his tips helpful when trying to decide when they’re choosing the finishes for a new home or condo purchase. Hey, that’s why we do this! Winners in this year’s CHBA-Alberta awards are also announced, and Calgary is well represented in the winners circle — cheers to everyone. Well-respected condo expert, Maria Bartolotti, also joins us this issue to give us her expertise in making the most of condo living — she starts off with a vital issue confronting most condo dwellers: do I need condo insurance?

The future for the multi-family market certainly seems as sunny as the weather has been lately, as a number of multi-family developers are continuing to see a huge number of traffic at their show suites. But whatever the future brings, you can trust that Condo Living will be there to provide the latest market news and developments.
