The summer of our contentment
What a great summer. The weather has been sunny, blue skies, for the most part, I’d say. But all good things come to an end — just to make way for better things ahead, the eternal optimist in me adds. October marks our kitchen issue and whether you’re in a condo or a single-family home this is the room that’s considered its beating heart.

We’ve lined up a bunch of kitchen-oriented articles for you this month starting with Jessica Patterson’s centre island revue — she tells us of new designs, and even tells us of the origin of this most practical and stylish component of today’s kitchens. Kathy McCormick cooks up (pun intended, of course) a feature on the latest stovetops and ranges in her Shopping feature and discusses the pros and cons of gas and electric models.  We also have a special treat in our cover feature this month where we discuss the numerous merits of Hopewell’s Copperfield, which has become the hottest multi-family community in the southeast. It also just happens to be where I live. We also take a look at the latest happening at Champagne by Remington Development Corporation, as its first building along the Bow River in Quarry Park goes up. Bucci’s NEXT is also profiled, and this SAM Award winner promises first possessions by early next year with 90 per cent of its homes already sold. Ovation at Westgate Park has the kind of lofts and townhomes that have become the new standard in the headlong race for high-end luxury and comfort in the city’s competitive multi-family market. While Cardel Lifestyle proves why it still is the city’s top producer of multi-families with Cranston Place.

We also take a closer look at East Village, how this part of town is getting revitalized and we see the diamond that’s been underneath the rough this whole time. Groundbreaking for its first two multi-family developments is scheduled to go underway this fall marking the next phase in the area’s redevelopment.

These are exciting times in Calgary, the condo market is booming, so many terrific options all over the city. We thought it would be timely for Richard Goatcher to also talk about the possible effects new mortgage rules could mean for the market.

One thing’s for sure, the choices are a-plenty, and making a decision to find your new condo starts right here.
