Holiday harvest
One of the reasons I like the cold weather (maybe the only reason) is that I get to introduce myself as “Chilly Pepper” (insert smiley face emoticon here). But levity aside, Calgarians seem to be in love with the city regardless of the weather. A recent city survey says 88 per cent of us are satisfied with life here. That, coupled with a strong economy, seems to spur growth in the new home and condo market and our features this month bear this out.

Take Barb Richardson, who we talked to for our Condo Lifestyles feature, she knows she has a sure-fire investment in her Landings at Cougar Ridge Villa, but she is of two minds whether she will sell it or take it for her own. It’s a compelling dilemma worthy maybe of a reality show, but it does show us the power of a good condo unit as an investment tool.

Whether you are an investor or you want a home for yourself, you will definitely fall in love with our condo features this month starting with La Caille’s impressive Vogue. This 34-storey inner-city tower promises to bring back high style in the condo scene in arguably the best downtown location. But if you’re looking for a home that’s more of a status statement, look no further than THERIVER, Calgary’s first luxury condo development that’s been breaking sales records and just recently broke ground. We also have 1912Cross in the SoBow development that took over the former Riverside Quays project in Inglewood. We also have the Aura of  Copperfield which brings townhome comfort to a new level with three new models. Avi Urban also lets us know about their latest undertaking, Sawyer Silverado, which brings a modern sensibility to this southwestern community.

Aaliya Essa puts on her explorer boots to tell us all about the new community of Redstone in the northeast, which she believes will set the tone for further growth in this vital part of the city.

With Christmas at our doorstep, we wanted to get in on the spirit of the holidays with some thematic stories including Jessica Patterson’s On Trend story on decorating on a budget for the holidays. Kathy McCormick adds to the festive mood with her Shopping feature on mapping out plans for Christmas entertaining. We also talk to some of Calgary’s most giving homebuilders about how the industry gives back to the community not only in Christmas but all-year-round.

The chilly weather also gets Jim Zang to thinking about the affordable housing in Arizona — which despite the recent uptick, remains to be one of the most popular home investment destinations for Canadian snowbirds.

These are exciting times in Calgary, the condo market is booming, so many terrific options all over the city. One thing’s for sure, the choices are a-plenty, and making a decision to find your new condo starts right here.
