Trico Homes’ sixth annual Ride for a Lifetime three-day charity event started on Friday, June 20 in Bearspaw for the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta (KCCFA).

“The three-day executive motorcycle ride treated 120 participants (108 bikers) to a beautiful ride through the Rocky Mountains to Revelstoke and on the second day on a scenic loop through the Shuswaps to Vernon and back to Revelstoke,” Kristie Pshyk a KCCFA representative said. “The event raised over $360,000 (goal surpassing) for childhood cancer research that will be conducted right here in Alberta.”

A rough-and-tumble biker brother pair clad in black leather and pink tutus were the centre of attention over the weekend. Kevin and Earl Pierson caved to some peer pressure and promises of money pledges for the event. Kevin said the unusual wardrobe choice was sparked when his colleagues “told me they’d pay big money to see me wear a tutu, so I’m doing it—for the kids!”
The total revenue of the event over its six-year run is now at more than $1.6 million.

but trico doesn’t stop there …

A 2006 Arena Report released by the City of Calgary indicated a severe shortage of arenas in the city, especially in the southeast. The Family Leisure Centre (FLC), situated in Calgary’s southeast, believes it can address this shortage, as construction for their new arena commences this summer with almost $18 million of the required $19.5 million funding already in place.

Trico Homes has committed $1.5 million over the next ten years for improvements to the current Family Leisure Centre. “We are very pleased to partner with the Family Leisure Centre and this community-driven campaign,” said Richard Gotfriend, vice-president of Trico Homes’ corporate communications. “It is an excellent fit with our vision to enrich the community through health and wellness initiatives, and we are proud to have our name associated with such an excellent facility and organization.” The commitment is being marked with a name change to Trico Centre for Family Wellness, officially on October 1, 2008.

The City of Calgary, Southcentre Mall, the Province of Alberta and corporate partners also made significant contributions to the project. FLC’s arena is slated for twinning by October 2009.
