Homes by Avi, Jack James High School partnership honoured
Homes by Avi President Avi Amir and Jack James High School Principal Bill Bobenic were honoured with the 2010 Mayors’ Excellence Award for their long-running partnership in giving students a hands-on experience in home building.
The award in the School to Work Transition category was given by the Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation during ceremonies attended by Calgary Mayor Dave Bronconnier and other dignitaries.
The partnership between the school and the award-winning home builder is built on the premise that there is no better way for students to master the skills necessary to succeed in this industry than to give them the opportunity to build a home. This partnership has existed for over a decade and a 13th Jack James home is currently under construction.
Each home is built on the school grounds, it is moved to its permanent location, sold, and the profits are re-invested back into the school partnership.
