PEAK Home Ownership program launched
Habitat for Humanity Calgary, the Alberta Provincial Government and Trico Homes jointly launched an innovative new housing program that will bring the dream of home ownership to reality for 65 mid-income Calgary families.
PEAK Home Ownership is a new and innovative, made-in-Alberta attainable home ownership program. PEAK stands for Public, Essential and Key Workforce, the core applicant base for the program. PEAK is designed to provide a broad swath of moderate-income Calgarians with the opportunity to achieve home ownership, and provides up to $56,000 in equity financing and mortgage assistance.
It’s for people such as entry-level nurses, fire fighters, health care and public sector workers, skilled trades people, clerical and service industry professionals who are key to a vibrant Calgary. “We estimate this represents well over 25,000 families who are currently paying relatively high rents, but who lack the savings for a down payment or who’s income falls slightly below market qualifying levels; but who have stable employment, moderate debt and good credit histories,” says Trico Vice-President Corporate and Community Relations.
Approved families will find their dream home one-, two- or three-bedroom units in Trico’s popular Milano multi-family project in Panorama Hills. Habitat will manage and administer the program, review all applications, approve the qualified applicants and work with each individual family to ensure success.
