Homes by Avi Group of Companies, with the Calgary Homeless Foundation, RESOLVE Campaign and HomeSpace Society, introduce The Maple, the latest homebuilder contribution in the fight to end homelessness in Calgary.

The Maple is being built in the community of Renfrew by Homes by Avi’s multi-family arm, Avi Urban, and will have 26 “forever homes” for some of the city’s most vulnerable people.

The virtual groundbreaking was held at the Globe Theatre on January 25, with a video presentation of how RESOLVE’s campaign is changing lives. “The Maple is another example of the collaborative efforts among the homebuilding industry, the private sector and government to end homelessness, the Maple will bring 26 clients directly out of homelessness,” Diana Krecsy, president and CEO of the Calgary Homeless Foundation, tells Around Town.

“As home builders we are inherently well suited to provide housing product for our community,” says Charron Ungar, president of Avi Urban. “Our participation within the RESOLVE campaign provides us the opportunity of doing what we do best while giving back to our community in a meaningful and lasting way.”

With a goal of helping end the affordable housing crisis in Calgary, the RESOLVE campaign seeks to raise $120 million to build affordable, supported housing for 3,000 homeless and vulnerable Calgarians. Partnered with nine social service agencies, including collaborations with government, business and community leaders, this new development represents a $1.4 million investment for the campaign — what Homes by Avi believes to be one of Calgary’s most essential endeavors.

Ungar continues, “with the start of the Renfrew site now imminent, our team is very excited to get going and bring to reality one more step on the road to achieve the lofty goal to end homelessness in Calgary.”
